Tigers fall 3-1 to Capers

Cape Breton university's men's soccer team beat the Dalhousie Tigers 3-1 on September 15 at Dalhousie's Wickwire Field.
CBU got off to an early start as Ze Cunha (Cascais, Portugal) found the back of the net just five minutes into the match. But Dalhousie kept their composure and with 15 minutes left to play in the first half Luke Berryman (Halifax, NS) converted a beautiful header to tie the score.
It didn't last very long though. Shortly after Berryman's goal Cape Breton scored after the ball deflected off a Dalhousie player for an own goal. The Capers led 2-1 entering halftime.
The Tigers came out of the break pressuring the Capers and generated a couple opportunities that didn't end up in goals but were a step in the right direction for a team looking to get the game tied up again.
Ben Hashimoto (Charlottetown, PE) had a golden chance when he managed to find himself with an uncontested look inside of the box, but Cape Breton Goaltender Daniel Clarke (Milton Keynes, England) made a nice save to keep his team in the lead. Later on, the Capers extended that lead even further when Owen Sheppard scored in the 67th minute.
Dalhousie had a perfect opportunity to close the gap in the 80th minute when Mykeo Parker-Christmas (Halifax, NS) broke out of the fray to face Clarke one-on-one. He managed to beat Clarke with a shot towards the bottom left corner but was stopped by Clarke's new best friend, the post.
The referees added four minutes of extra time but they weren't enough for Dalhousie to get back in the game and the Capers came away with their fourth win of the season to keep their undefeated record.
Dalhousie and CBU fans alike braved the elements as Hurricane Lee barreled down on Nova Scotia causing heavy rain throughout the game. The loss moves the Tigers to 0-2 on the season with one tie.
The Capers will head to Wolfville next Saturday, September 23, to square off against the Acadia Axemen. Dalhousie's next match is this Thursday, September 21, when their cross-town rivals the Saint Mary's Huskies come to Wickwire.
