UdeM blanks St. Thomas 5-0 in mid-week match-up

Goaltender Annick Boudreau turned away 18 shots and led the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues (5-10-0=10pts,6th position) to a 3rd straight victory in Atlantic University Sport women's hockey on Wednesday against the St.Thomas University Tommies (5-9-1-0=11pts, 7thposition) with a final score of 5-0 at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena on the Moncton campus.

Less than two minutes from the end of the first period, the Aigles Bleues opened the scoring thanks to Shani Rossignol (Maritza Labrie, Isadora Quirion) who scored her sixth of the season. In the second period, the Blue and Gold scored their second thanks to Subway player of the game Maritza Labrie (Erica Plourde, Catherine Longchamp) for her first of the season at 3:38 followed closely by teammate Janie Caissie (Emily Gravelle, Elodie St.-Jacques) at 8:46 for a 3-0 lead.

Shortly after the third period kicked off, the Aigles Bleues added their fourth thanks to Alexia Desforges (Plourde, Lianne Desforges) at 3:35. At 17:35,the Blue and Gold on the power play maintained its momentum by scoring a fifth goal thanks to Clémence Dumesnil (Marie-Ève Ré, St.-Jacques). The Aigles Bleues directed 42 (10-17-15) shots towards goalie Katie Sweeney. Moncton scored twice on 4 power-play opportunities and St. Thomas was 0-for-1.

The Aigles Bleues next and final first semester game is Friday at 7 p.m. against the Mount Allison University Mounties at home. The Tommies will also play at home Friday at 7 p.m. against the University of New Brunswick Reds.
