X-Men and Tigers trade haymakers in a high-scoring affair

Halifax, NS - The STFX X-Men overcame a four-goal deficit late in the second period and scored six unanswered goals to beat the Dalhousie Tigers 7-5 Friday night at the Halifax Forum.

The Tigers looked good early as they out-shot the X-Men 14-8 in the first period. An early power play for the X-Men looked like it may bring us the first goal of the game, but the Dalhousie defence held strong. The Tigers persistence paid off when Brett Crossley (Dartmouth, NS) found the back of the net to open the scoring.

The second period was full of fireworks as both teams combined to score six goals. Campbell Pickard (Halifax, NS), Josh Wainman (Peterborough, ON), Shaun Miller (Enfield, NS), and Liam Peyton (Halifax, NS) all scored goals for the Tigers, while Roddie Sandilands (Williamstown, ON) and Bailey Webster (Kensington, PE) netted a couple goals for STFX as the Tigers lead 5-2 after 40 minutes.

The X-Men exploded in the third period, as Josh Nelson (Lockport, IL), Dallas Farrell (Cardigan, PE), and Jacob Hudson (Antigonish, NS) all scored goals in the span of six minutes to tie the game late in the period.

Some frustration penalties by Dalhousie gave STFX a 5-on-3 power play and Hudson scored his second of the night to take the lead. An empty netter by Liam Hawel (Arnprior, ON) sealed the win for the X-Men.

Jacob Hudson earned Subway player of the game honours for StFX as his two goals helped fuel the X-Men comeback and deliver the win.

Dalhousie loses their seventh game in a row and will now turn their attention to UPEI as they travel to Charlottetown tomorrow to face the Panthers.

STFX will look to make it a four-game win streak next Wednesday, as they host Saint Mary's in a make-up game that was originally scheduled for Oct. 5.
