X-Women drop close game to Sea-Hawks

St.John's, NL - The Memorial Sea-Hawks defeated the STFX X-Women 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at King George V stadium in Atlantic University Sport (AUS) women's soccer action. 

The teams each earned a weekend win as the X-Women took home a 3-0 victory Saturday.

Claire Kean (St. John's, NL) scored the game winning goal for the home team Sea-Hawks (2-4-1) in the 35th minute of the first half in her first career goal. 

The goal would hold up as neither team found the back of the net in the second half of the game, despite the X-Women holding a 14-8 shot advantage.

Kate Hickey (St. John's, NL) opened the scoring early in the first half for Memorial, tallying just five minutes in. Less than one minute later Amanda Smith scored for the X-Women to tie the score at 1-1. 

Memorial's Sarah Jones (St. John's) was named the Subway Player of the Game honours for her outstanding efforts.

STFX (4-2-0) will be back in action on Thursday, October 6th at 5pm in Sydney, NS facing the Cape Breton Capers, while the Sea-Hawks will enjoy the Thanksgiving break and will be on the road again October 15th to play the UNB Reds.
