(SACKVILLE, NB) On the eve of a tropical storm, Mount Allison hosted StFX in a Friday evening women's soccer contest in Sackville. After 90 minutes, it was the X-Women who would walk away with the 4-0 victory and remain undefeated on the season.
Both teams seemed hesitant in the first quarter of the game with no real offensive threat coming from either side. StFX would strike first in the 27th minute when Lauren Reid (Kanata, ON) collected a rebound off the crossbar and guided the ball into the back of the net with a deft header.
The X-Women would add a second goal just before halftime as the ball took a strange bounce off the crossbar once again – this time it was Amanda Smith (Ottawa, ON) with the goal.
Aidan Miller (Chilliwack, BC) would find a way to squeeze through the Mounties backline and put one past the keeper to give StFX a quick 3-0 lead at the start of the 2nd half.
In the 66th minute, fifth-year veteran Amanda Smith would add her second of the game when she redirected a pass off the corner on a difficult one-hopper.
Mount Allison (0-4-0) will look to get back on track as they host the Aigles Bleues on September 22 at 5 p.m. for the first of two games on Homecoming weekend.
StFX (5-0-0) for their part will look to continue their unbeaten run as they travel to play Dalhousie on September 23 for a 1 p.m. kick-off.
