Panthers upset X-Women in come from behind victory
Panthers turn hard work and a spectacular performance from goaltender Sarah Forsythe into a come from behind 2-1 win over X-Women
ANTIGONISH, NS - THE UPEI Panthers turned hard work and a spectacular performance from goaltender Sarah Forsythe into a come from behind 2-1 win over the STFX X-Women in AUS women's hockey action on Saturday night at the Charles V Keating Centre.
The win snapped a four game losing skid by the Panthers, who are the first team to defeat STFX since November 3rd. The X-Women remain idle atop the AUS standings, with five games left in the season as they vie for the regular season title and a bye though the first round of the playoffs.
Physical, back and forth play marked the opening minutes of the game, with STFX holding an edge in shots. Anna MacCara came close to opening the score on a big rush 12 minutes in, but Forsythe knocked the shot over the net. MacCara broke in alone with 30 seconds to go, but was foiled once again by the Panthers goalie.
STFX defender Terryn Mozes opened the scoring 24 seconds into the second period, wristing one in from the point. The X-Women continued to buzz early as they pressed to increase their lead.

The Panthers drew even with seven minutes to go, with Ashley McCutchen stuffing in a rebound from in close. UPEI forward Chloe McCabe put her team up one with two minutes left in the middle stanza, tipping home a point shot from rookie Jessica Mercer.
The X-Women pressed to get the equalizer, but Forsythe's strong play stymied the Blue and White. MacCara rang a shot off the post halfway through the period, and a pair of powerplays looked dangerous, but the Panthers held on for the win.
STFX goalie Bianca Zak picked up her first loss of the season, making 18 saves on the night.
Forsythe's 44 save performance earned her the games first star and the nod for Player of the Game. Mozes and MacCara were the second and third stars.
It's a quick turnaround for the X-Women, who host the Saint Mary's Huskies on home ice Sunday, February 2, at 3 p.m.
The Panthers return home to host Moncton on Wednesday, February 5, at 7 p.m.
