(MONCTON, NB) Cassie McCallum (Rothesay, NB) made 30 saves to lead the UNB REDS in a 2-1 win over the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleues on Friday.

"We had strong moments that were able to get us through the game," said McCallum, named Subway Player of the Game. "But we need to take tonight's game as a learning opportunity. We know what we're capable of and we need to bring it into tomorrow's game, no matter the competitor, and use it as a building block for the rest of the season."

The REDS opened the scoring at the 2:51 mark of the first period, on Ashley Stratton's (Mount Pearl, NL) third goal of the season.

At 9:57 of the first, Emilie Lalancette (St. Andrews West, ON) tied it for Moncton.

After a scoreless second period, Payton Hargreaves (Whitby, ON) scored UNB's winner at 2:28 of the third.

"I believe, as a team, we didn't play to our potential," said McCallum. "We definitely have more to show."

"It was nice to get two points," said REDS head coach Sarah Hilworth. "But, it wasn't our best 60 minutes of hockey. Cassie did an excellent job tonight, and gave us an opportunity to win. It was good to get the job done."

The REDS have won six straight and sit atop the Atlantic University Sport standings with a 6-0-0-1 record.

Moncton is now 1-6-0-0 and will host the STFX X-Women on Sunday.

The REDS return home and will host the X-Women on Saturday. Game time is 7:00pm.

That's a game of the No. 4 and No. 5 ranked teams in the country.

"We're excited for the next challenge," said Hilworth.
