Capers edged by Varsity Reds
A frantic comeback came up just short as the Cape Breton Capers dropped an 84-83 decision to the visiting University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds in AUS men's basketball Friday in Sydney.
The Capers (4-5) actually took a lead on Cedric Kasongo's layup with 4.6 seconds remaining, but UNB (4-4) converted on the ensuing inbounds pass with 1.6 seconds left on the clock to take the win.
Kenny Jean-Louis had 20 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists to lead the Capers while freshman Jack MacAulay finished with 17 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Kelson Devereaux had 15 points and eight rebounds off the bench for the Capers.
Matt Daley had a game high 29 points and seven assists for the Varsity Reds while Javon Masters chipped in with 24 points and eight rebounds.
The Capers will be back in action Wednesday for a road game with the StFX X-Men before returning home for a rematch with their Antigonish rivals Saturday at the Sullivan Fieldhouse.
