Visiting Aigles Blue top Huskies 3-2

(Halifax, NS)—The University de Moncton Aigles Bleu defeated the SMU Huskies 3-2 in Atlantic University Sport women's volleyball action Saturday afternoon.

Moncton won the first set 25-11with ten kills.

SMU rebounded and used 14 team kills, winning the second set 25-23.

The Huskies had 13 kills in the third set, winning 25-19.

Moncton took the fourth set 25-22 with both teams using 11 kills in the set.

In the fifth and final set, SMU jumped out to a quick 5-2 lead.

A 4-1 Aigles Bleu run tied up the match 6-6 and Moncton pulled even twice down the stretch, 8-8 and 10-10.

Two Moncton kills had the Aigles Bleu out in front for the first time in the final set 12-10.

Both teams each traded errors for points, 13-11, and a Saint Mary's kill had the Huskies within one point, 13-12.

A 2-1 run for Moncton ended the set 15-13 and the match 3-2 for the Aigles Bleu.

Moncton improves to 4-9 (8pts) and SMU falls to 2-9 (4pts) in AUS play.

Rachelle Lemoine (Saint Boniface, MB) led Moncton with 13 kills on 15.5 points (2e 24 att, .458) while Christelle Bertin (Beresford, NB) finished with 20 digs and scored 14.0 points.

Jaime Rourke (Mission, BC) and Erica Dowling (Lower Sackville, NS) had 10 kills each for SMU.

Erin Smith had 12.0 points on eight kills (23 23att, .261) for the Huskies.

Saint Mary's home stand continues this month with games versus Acadia, January 27th 7pm and Dalhouse on January 31st 2pm.
