Dalhousie beat Université de Moncton three sets to two (25-9, 20-25, 22-25, 25-13, 15-7) Sunday afternoon women's volleyball action at Dalplex.

Dalhousie took the first set 25-9 behind some stellar play from Lucy Glen-Carter (Toronto, ON) who had five kills in the set, as well as Grace Calnan (Dartmouth, NS), who went on a ten-point service run including a couple of aces to close it out for the Tigers.

Moncton got off to a better start in the second set as they began to find the cracks in the Tigers defence. Some strong play at the net from Ivana Urquhart-Mladineo (St. John, NB) and an impressive service run by Cassidy Martin (Dieppe, NB) opened an 18-11 lead for the Aigles Bleus. A huge kill by Glen-Carter seemed to breathe life into the Tigers, who went on a run of their own to make things close, but Moncton ended up winning the set 25-20.

Moncton kept it rolling in the third set, and an excellent hitting performance from Kyanna Sivert (Rivière-à-la-Truite, NB) gave les Aigles Bleus a 25-22 set victory. Dalhousie refocused and won the fourth set 25-13 thanks to their staunch defence at the net as they racked up block after block to force a fifth and final set.

The Tigers got out to an early lead in the fifth, and an ace by Charlotte Arsenault (Ottawa, ON) sparked a game clinching run that was bolstered by Glen-Carter's continued dominance as Dalhousie took the game clinching set 15-7.

Glen-Carter was rewarded with Subway Player of the Game honours after totalling 28 kills and 10 digs in the contest.

Dalhousie notched their first win of the season and moves to 1-1, while Moncton drops their second game in a row as they start the season 0-2.

Both teams will spend the next week preparing, as Moncton play UNB in Fredericton on Friday, and Dalhousie faces their rivals Saint Mary's at the Homburg Centre on Saturday. Both games begin at 7:00 p.m.
