Fredericton, NB - The STU Tommies overcame a 3-1 deficit with a third-period comeback, capped by captain Ekaterina Pelowich's overtime goal, to secure a 4-3 win over UPEI in their home opener at the Grant-Harvey Centre.
UPEI came out flying, with Brooke Henderson opening the scoring early in the first(Min 8:57) assisted by Paige Outhouse and Renee Chapman.
Chloe McCabe doubled the lead shortly after, putting the Panthers up 2-0(Min10:54). The Tommies found life minutes later in the period, as rookie Tristyn Endicott notched her first goal of the season to cut the deficit to one(Min 15:13).
In the second, UPEI kept the pressure on, and Ruby Loughton sniped one past the Tommies goaltender, making it 3-1. However, STU didn't back down, continuing to battle hard on both ends of the ice.
The third period saw the Tommies ramp up their intensity, which paid off. Defender Laura Brown stepped up, firing a shot from the point that found the back of the net to make it 3-2(Min 12:25), giving STU a surge of momentum.
With seconds left on the clock, and the Tommies pressing hard, Nadia Lavoie buried the equalizer, sending the game to overtime(Min 19:43).
In OT, it was Ekaterina Pelowich who played the hero, scoring the game-winning goal to give the Tommies their first win of the season.
