MONCTON, NB—The first star of the game, goaltender Nathan Darveau, stopped 24 (5-12-7) shots to allow the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus (7-2-1-0=15pts, 2nd position) to blank the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers (3-6-0-0=6pts, 5th position) 3-0 on Friday night at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.
Charles Édouard Drouin (Jeremy Michel) gave the Aigles Bleus a 1-0 lead at 6:48 of the first period as the home team led 14-5 in shots on goal. Jeremy Lapointe (Michel, Jacob Dion) made it 2-0 at 8:53 of the second period after a near-perfect passing play. David Doucet (Edouard St-Laurent, Michel) on the power play completed the scoring at 8:16 of the third period. Joe Ranger faced 29 (14-7-8) shots in the loss. Jacob Dion, the 3rd star, collected 2 assists. Jérémy Michel was the 2nd star.
The game was intense with several penalties. Moncton was 1-for-10 on the power play and UPEI 0-for-16. It was the first meeting this season between these two teams. The defenders of both teams were able to block many shots.
Moncton's next game is on the road on Friday, Nov. 8 in Wolfville against the Acadia University Axemen. The Panthers meet the UNB Reds in Fredericton on Saturday, Nov. 2.
