(FREDERICTON, NB) Malcom Christie (Fredericton, NB) led the Dalhousie Tigers with 26 points as they swept their opening weekend series with the UNB REDS with a 90-65 win on Saturday night.

Christie earned Subway Player of the Game honours for his efforts.

"They [UNB] came out super-hot, same as yesterday. We had to make some defensive adjustments, but we trusted our guys and the game took care of itself," said Christie.

Shamar Burrows (Nassau, BAH) added 14 points and six rebounds in the win for the Tigers.

Norm Burry (Grafton, NB) led the REDS with 25 points and five rebounds, while Brett Speedy (Fredericton, NB) had 14 points.

"It's not the way we wanted to start the season, but I think there is lots that we can grow from," said Burry.

The REDS started hot from behind the arc, going 6 for 9 from three-point range in the first quarter and opened with a 20-8 run to start.

Dalhousie battled back and quickly made up the deficit by the end of the quarter with a 13-5 run of their own to cut the REDS lead to 25-21.

The teams continued to trade momentum swings in the second.

UNB opened the quarter with the first six points to go up 31-21, to which Dal answered with a 10-1 run to pull within one at 32-31.

Both teams would pull even, 35-35, with four minutes to go in the half before the Tigers finished with a 17-3 run to lead 52-38 at the break.

It wouldn't get any better for the REDS as the Tigers dominated the third quarter, outscoring UNB 24-14 to head to the fourth with a commanding 76-52 lead.

The REDS would fail to make up any meaningful ground in the final frame, and would fall 90-65.

The REDS come out of their opening weekend 0-2 while the Tigers sit at 2-0.

The REDS are back in action, at home, next Saturday, when they host the Memorial Sea-Hawks. Game time is 8:00pm.

The Tigers visit the Saint Mary's Huskies on Thursday. That game is scheduled for an 8:00pm start.
