(FREDERICTON, NB) Keji Adeniyi (London, UK) and Luke Rosettani (Kanata, ON) each scored twice to lead the UNB REDS in a 5-1 win over the Dalhousie Tigers, in Atlantic University Sport men's soccer action, on Sunday.
Adeniyi scored in the 11th and 22nd minutes, earning Subway Player of the Game honours.
"It feels great," said Adeniyi. "It's great momentum going into next week. We have two big games against STFX and CBU."
Adeniyi's first half goals followed a highlight reel goal by Roan Saengmeng (Charlottetown, PE), in the 7thminute, and staked the home team to an early 3-0 lead.
UNB took that three-goal advantage to half time.
The Tigers came to life early in the second half, buoyed by a goal in the 61st minute, off the foot of fifth year striker Mohammed Jaber (Halifax, NS).
But the Tigers surge ended there, and the REDS added to their lead.
Rosettani's goals came inside a three-minute span, including a strike from distance to the top of the net, to give the hosts a 5-1 lead.
"When goals start coming and we get things together, it just gives us confidence to play our game," said Adeniyi. "We're set, we're comfortable and we think we can win the game, so it helps a lot."
Dalhousie defenders struggled to contain REDS attacks from start to finish.
"We just weren't prepared to do the work," said Tigers' head coach Alan Jazic. "You have to be humble enough in this league to recognize that you have to do the work to be successful. Offensively, I don't think we played terribly. We looked like we created some danger and some opportunities, but defensively it was just nowhere near good enough for this league."
"We talked about their dangerous men before the game and their dangerous men hurt us," he added.
With the win, the REDS improve to 2-0-1, while the Tigers are now 1-1-1.
Up next for Dal, a Friday evening home game against Memorial. Game time is scheduled for 7:15pm.
The REDS go on the road next weekend, visiting Cape Breton on Saturday and STFX on Sunday. Both games are scheduled to start at 3:15pm.
