(SACKVILLE, NB) The Mount Allison Mounties women's soccer team took the field on Wednesday night at Alumni Field against the UPEI Panthers for their final home match of the 2023 season.
The first half saw the Panthers control much of the possession and create chances early, however it was the Mounties that broke through first in the 27th minute when Victoria Jones (Ajax, ON) dribbled through the UPEI defense with the ball falling to Kathryn Perry (Riverview, NB) who fired a shot past the keeper to put the home side up, a lead they would carry into halftime.
UPEI pushed everybody into the box including their keeper in the final moments of the game for one final opportunity, but the referee blew for a foul, and then for the final whistle as the Mounties women held on for their first win of the season. Kathryn Perry received AUS Player of the Game honours for her winning goal.
The Mounties (1-8-2) conclude their season on the road in Halifax on Saturday, October 21st against the Saint Mary's Huskies with kick-off set for 1:00pm. The UPEI Panthers (3-6-2) finish their season at home against the Dalhousie Tigers in Charlottetown, also on the 21st, with kick-off set for 3:00pm.
