Aigles Bleus snap losing streak with 6-3 win over X-Men

Moncton, NB – The Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleus snapped a five-game losing streak with a 6-3 victory over the StFX X-Men Saturday night at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena.

The hotly contested game was high in intensity as both teams battled hard with numerous checks and hits. The Aigles Bleus had a 44-29 advantage on shots on goal, including 20 in the third period.

Maxime St-Cyr (Wilson Forest, Vincent Deslauriers), on the power play gave the home team a 1-0 lead in the first period.

Adam Holwell leveled the score at the beginning of the second with a power play goal for the X-Men.

Robbie Graham (Olivier Desjardins, Édouard Michaud), during a melee in front of the net at 17:27, and Danick Crête (Alexis Roy, Deslauriers) at 19:34, gave Moncton a two-goal lead.

The Aigles Bleus held onto the 3-1 lead after two periods.

Bryson Cianfrone offered his team hope with a goal in the first minute of the third period.

Deslauriers (Vincent Lanoue, Roy), replied at 3:11 to regain the two-goal lead.

Cianfrone, with his second marker of the night, reduced the lead again to one at the 9:08 mark.

Moncton's Ryan Chiasson was tripped on a breakaway that resulted in a penalty shot. He did not miss his chance and Moncton again had a two-goal lead.

Édouard Michaud (Maxime St-Cyr) eliminated all hope for the X-Men with an empty net goal at 18:36.  

Étienne Montpetit faced 29 shots in the Moncton, many close and dangerous, for the win. Blade Mann-Dixon, with 44 shots, suffered the loss.

Moncton went 1 for 4 on the power play while StFX was 1 for 3.

Next on the AUS schedule sees Moncton travelling to Halifax to face-off against Dalhousie on Friday, October 25th. The X-Men will host UNB, also on Friday. Game time for both matches is 7:00 pm.
