(SACKVILLE, NB) In our second soccer game of the afternoon, the men's Capers defeated the hometown Mounties 3-0.
Mount Allison nearly took the lead very early on as a bad touch from CBU keeper fell right to Aidan Denis (Hammonds Plains, NS) but he could not capitalize. After the blunder the Capers would steady themselves and control the game entirely.
What was thought to be the game's first goal was waved off as the assistant referee's flag came up late to deny Kairo Coore (Whitby, ON). Coore would go on to be names Subway Player of the game and finish the game with a brace.
CBU would put on a tremendous team effort for their first goal as a sumptuous through ball to Cian Lynch (Dublin, Ireland) was controlled and fed through to the aforementioned Coore for a tap-in goal. The Capers would add a second courtesy of Owen Sheppard (St. John's, NL) as his dipping shot went around the Mounties keeper to make it 2-0. Special mention on Sheppard's goal as the assist from Jamie Watson (Kirkcaldy, Scotland) fell perfectly for his teammate.
The second half would continue much like the first as the newly substituted Ousman Cham (Leeds, England) made no mistake to give his side a 3-0 lead.
The Mounties best chance came off a Colby Mercer (Beaverbank, NS) free-kick just outside the box as his effort found the post.
CBU (5-0-1) will travel home and play host to St. FX on October 10 at 3 p.m., this their October 6 remake game.
Mount Allison (0-6-1) for their part travel to Wolfville to take on Acadia on October 14 at 7 p.m.
