2018 AUS fall sports schedules released

(HALIFAX, N.S.) - Atlantic University Sport released the 2018 fall sports schedules today, including women’s rugby, men’s and women’s soccer as well as men’s and women’s cross country. Hosts for the 2018 fall championships were also confirmed.

In women’s rugby, the reigning AUS champion StFX X-Women will host the Saint Mary’s Huskies on opening night, Friday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. The following day at 2 p.m., the Acadia Axewomen will host the UPEI Panthers in their home opener in Wolfville, N.S.

The Panthers and the Huskies will play their own home openers the following weekend. UPEI will host StFX on Saturday, Sept. 15 at 2 p.m. and Saint Mary’s will host Acadia Sunday at 3 p.m.

The 2018 Subway AUS Rugby Championship will once again feature a three-team playoff format. The team that finishes third in the regular season standings will visit the second-place team in Week 7, with the winner moving on to visit the first-place team the following weekend in the championship final game.

The AUS champion will then advance to the 2018 U SPORTS women’s rugby championship being hosted Nov. 1 to 4 by Acadia University.

As hosts, the Axewomen are guaranteed a berth in the national championship. Should Acadia win the AUS championship, the second Atlantic conference berth will be awarded to the AUS runner up.   

All 10 AUS men’s and women’s soccer teams will see action on opening weekend Sept. 7 to 9.

The defending AUS champion Cape Breton Capers will open their seasons at home as they play host to the UNB Varsity Reds Saturday, Sept. 8 at 1 and 3:15 p.m.

This season’s Subway AUS Soccer Championships will be hosted by Cape Breton University in Sydney, N.S. This marks the first time the men’s and women’s championships will be hosted jointly. They will take place Nov. 1 to 4. 

The University of Ottawa will host the U SPORTS women’s soccer championship Nov. 8 to 11 while the University of British Columbia plays host to the men’s national championship.

The men’s and women’s cross country teams will open up their season with an invitational meet Saturday, Sept. 15, being hosted by UPEI in Charlottetown, P.E.I. StFX will host the second meet Sept. 22 in Antigonish, N.S., while the third invitational meet will be co-hosted by UNB and St. Thomas University in Fredericton, N.B. on Saturday, Oct. 6.

The final invitational meet of the season will held Saturday, Oct. 13 and hosted by Université de Moncton.

Dalhousie University will play host this season to the 2018 Subway AUS Cross Country Championship Oct. 27 in Halifax, N.S.

The 2018 U SPORTS Cross Country Championships will be hosted Saturday, Nov. 10. The host has yet to be announced.

The 2018-19 winter sports schedules will be ratified at the AUS Annual General Meeting in May and released later that month.
