Acadia's McDonald and Memorial's Ring named Subway AUS Athletes of the Week

(HALIFAX, N.S.) Haley McDonald from the Acadia Axewomen basketball team and Emanuel Ring from the Memorial Sea-Hawks men's basketball team have been named the Subway AUS Athletes of the Week for their respective performances for this past week.

Haley McDonald of the Acadia Axewomen basketball team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport women’s athlete of the week for the week ending Jan. 29, 2023.

A fifth-year guard from Port Williams, N.S., McDonald played a pivotal role in two weekend wins for the Axewomen.

In Friday’s 93-60 win over the Dalhousie Tigers, she stuffed the stats sheet—amassing 19 points, nine assists, four rebounds and three steals.

Saturday, McDonald finished with a game-high 32 points in Acadia’s 92-71 win over the UNB Reds. She added nine rebounds, eight assists, a block and a steal and was rewarded with Subway Player of the Game honours following the win.

Following her weekend performance, McDonald surpassed former Cape Breton Capers’ standout Alison Keough to move into fifth place in career points in the AUS record books. She now has 1,744 career points with five games remaining in the regular season.

Emanuel Ring of the Memorial Sea-Hawks men’s basketball team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport men’s athlete of the week for the week ending Jan. 29, 2023.

The Sea-Hawks played in four regular season games this past week due to scheduling changes caused by weather. Memorial split their doubleheader versus the Saint Mary’s Huskies. Ring posted a game-high 29 points in the loss on Monday, adding six rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block.

In Tuesday’s win over the Huskies, Ring had a game-high 22 points for the Sea-Hawks. He added five rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks.

Memorial went on to split their games against the Cape Breton Capers this past weekend. In Saturday's win, Ring finished with a double-double, posting a game-high 27 points and ten assists. He added five rebounds, two steals and two blocks.

In the Sea-Hawks’ loss to Cape Breton on Sunday, Ring had nine points, seven assists, three rebounds and three steals. He currently sits second in the conference in points, averaging 22.7 per game.
