Jamie Watson of the Cape Breton Capers men’s soccer team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending November 6, 2022.

A second-year defender from Kirkcaldy, Scotland, Watson helped lead his program to its sixth consecutive conference banner over the weekend in Sydney and was named the 2022 Subway AUS Men’s Soccer Championship’s most valuable player. He played every minute of the tournament for the Capers and anchored a stingy defence that allowed only one goal in two matches.

In the Capers’ 2-1 semi-final win over Moncton, Watson scored the game-winner off a spectacular free-kick in the 84th minute. He also helped set up the opening goal in Cape Breton's 2-0 championship final victory over rivals STFX.

Watson—who was also named an AUS first-team all-star last week— will lead CBU into the 2022 U SPORTS Men's Soccer Championship in Kamloops, B.C. from November 10-13.
