StFX's Culligan and CBU's Waters named Subway AUS Athletes of the Week

(HALIFAX, N.S.) Katherine Culligan of StFX X-Women rugby and Charlie Waters of CBU's men's soccer team are your Subway AUS Athletes of the Week thanks to their big performances on the pitch last weekend.

Katherine Culligan of the StFX women’s rugby team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending October 24, 2021. 

A second-year BAScH student from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Culligan was an impact player offensively and defensively in the U SPORTS No. 8-ranked StFX X-Women’s 35-15 semifinal win over the UPEI Panthers on Saturday. The second-year centre scored two tries in the game, had three brilliant runs and several key tackles. Culligan was also named Subway Player of the Game for her standout performance.

The X-Women face the Acadia Axewomen this Sunday in Wolfville in the 2021 Subway AUS Rugby Championship, presented by Bell.

Charlie Waters of the Cape Breton Capers men’s soccer team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending October 24, 2021. 

A third-year forward from Blackpool, UK, Waters was an offensive force for the Capers over the weekend, helping to lead his team to a pair of victories. He scored one goal and tallied five assists in Saturday’s decisive 10-0 win over the Mount Allison Mounties. In Sunday’s 3-0 victory over the Dalhousie Tigers, Waters had one goal on five shots, along with a variety of teammate setups. He was named the Subway Athlete of the Game for both matches.

Position: Keeper
Hometown: Newmarket, Ont.
Year of eligibility: Fifth

Sarah Charnock of the U SPORTS No. 7-ranked Acadia Axewomen soccer team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending Sept. 22, 2019.

A fifth-year keeper from Newmarket, Ont., Charnock backstopped the Axewomen to two weekend wins over the Dalhousie Tigers and the U SPORTS No. 2-ranked Cape Breton Capers.

Acadia earned a 1-0 win over the Tigers Friday night in Wolfville, N.S. Charnock had two saves in the win.

She made another four saves Sunday as the Axewomen topped the two-time defending AUS champion Capers 2-1.  She was named Subway Player of the Game for her efforts.

Tane Caubo of the StFX X-Men soccer team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending Sept. 22, 2019.

A fourth-year arts student from London, England, Caubo had eight points in two games this weekend for the X-Men.

In StFX’s 6-1 win over the Mount Allison Mounties Saturday in Sackville, N.B., he scored a hat trick, including the game-winning goal. He was named Subway Player of the Game for his efforts.

Sunday in Fredericton, N.B., the X-Men tied the U SPORTS No. 8-ranked UNB Reds 3-3. Caubo had two goals and an assist in the draw.
