SMU's Gascoigne and Dalhousie's Veinot named Subway AUS Athletes of the Week

(HALIFAX, NS) SMU Huskies' Clara Gascoigne and Dalhousie Tigers' Keevan Veinot led their teams to big basketball wins over the weekend, securing themselves Subway AUS Athlete of the Week status for the week ending March 6.

Clara Gascoigne of the Saint Mary’s Huskies women’s basketball team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending March 6, 2022. 

Gascoigne led her Huskies to two at-home wins over the Memorial Sea-Hawks last weekend—82-59 on Saturday and 76-65 on Sunday. The second-year guard from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, averaged 17.5 points per game, with 58% shooting from the field and 100% on free throws (6/6). She also added an average of 7 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.5 blocks per game.

On the season Gascoigne leads her team in rebounding (7.0 rebounds per game) and leads the conference in steals (30) and blocks (24). This weekend, Saint Mary’s will finish the 2021-22 regular season with two road games against the UNB REDS.

Keevan Veinot of the Dalhousie Tigers men’s basketball team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending March 6, 2022.

A fourth-year guard from Port Williams, Nova Scotia, Veinot was instrumental in the Tigers’ two wins over the weekend. In Friday night’s 100-74 victory over the Acadia Axemen he was named the Subway Player of the game, with 26 points and 5 rebounds to his name.

Veinot was a difference-maker again in Sunday’s 82-67 win over the visiting UNB REDS, netting a game-high 28 points in addition to 11 rebounds, six assists and two steals.

Veinot and the Tigers will finish out the 2021-22 regular season at home this weekend, as they host the CBU Capers on Friday at 8pm and Saturday at 3pm.
