Dalhousie's Crowell and UNB's Dove-McFalls named Subway AUS Athletes of the Week

(HALIFAX, NS) Between record-breaking race times at the U SPORTS Swimming Championships and scoring the game-winner at the Subway AUS Men's Hockey Championship, Dal's Reagan Crowell and UNB's Samuel Dove-McFalls have earned Subway Athlete of the Week honours for the week ending March 27, 2022.

Reagan Crowell of the Dalhousie Tigers women’s swimming team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending March 27, 2022.  

A third-year swimmer from Lakeville, NB, Crowell celebrated three lifetime bests last week weekend at the 2022 U SPORTS Swimming Championships in Quebec City. The 2021-22 AUS women’s swimmer of the year improved her personal best time in the 800-metre freestyle event by seven seconds, winning her a U SPORTS silver medal and second team All-Canadian status. Her 8:42:20 time also set new Dalhousie and Swim Nova Scotia records.

Crowell advanced to four A and three B finals during championship weekend, earning sixth-place finishes in the 400-metre freestyle and 4x100-metre freestyle relay and a seventh-place with the 4x200-metre freestyle relay team. She also finished 10th in the 200-metre freestyle, helped her Tigers earn a 12th place finish in the 4x100-metre medley relay and celebrated a 14th in the 100-metre freestyle event just 20 minutes after her silver medal performance.

Samuel Dove-McFalls of the UNB REDS men’s hockey team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending March 27, 2022.  

An MBA student and the REDS' team captain, Dove Mc-Falls scored one goal and had two assists in the 2022 Subway AUS men’s hockey championship final in Fredericton, leading UNB to a 3-1 victory over the STFX X-Men. This win marked the REDS’ fourth consecutive AUS title.

His championship performance and game-winning goal earned Dove-McFalls both Subway player of the game and most valuable player of the AUS men’s hockey playoffs. In three playoff games, the AUS second team all-star tallied five points for UNB.

The AUS champions now head to the U SPORTS University Cup tournament, hosted by Acadia University from March 31-April 3. The second-seeded REDS will face the seventh-seed Ryerson Rams in the quarter-final round.
