StFX's Johnson and UNB's Doumbouya named Subway AUS Athletes of the Week

(HALIFAX, N.S.) StFX X-Women hockey player Jamie Johnson and UNB Reds men's basketball player Ibrahima Doumbouya have been named the Subway AUS Athletes of the Week for their respective performances for this past week.

Jamie Johnson of the U SPORTS No. 10-ranked StFX X-Women hockey team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending Jan. 26, 2020.

A first-year human kinetics student from Victoria, B.C., Johnson earned three wins this week including two shutouts, helping place the X-Women in a tie for first place in the AUS standings.

She had 13 saves in a 6-0 win over Mount Allison on Tuesday, then followed up with a 2-0 shutout win Friday over U SPORTS No. 3-ranked UPEI. She had 22 saves and earned Subway Player of the Game honours.

On Saturday, Johnson backstopped the X-Women to a 3-1 win over U SPORTS No. 2-ranked Saint Mary’s Huskies, posting 31 saves and earning second star honours.

With a 10-2-0 record, she currently leads the AUS in GGA with 1.36 and is second in save percentage (.944) and win percentage (.833).

Ibrahima Doumbouya of the UNB Reds men’s basketball team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending Jan. 26, 2020.

A third-year power forward from Calgary, Alta., Doumbouya recorded back-to-back double-doubles as the Reds swept a pair of weekend games at Acadia.

In Friday’s decisive 91-68 win, he scored 17 points, pulled down an incredible 20 rebounds, and added three assists.

On Saturday, in UNB’s 77-75 overtime win, Doumbouya played every minute and led all scorers with 24 points. He added 18 rebounds and four assists.

He was named Subway Player of the Game in both games.

University: Acadia University
Sport: Women’s Soccer
Position: Keeper
Hometown: Newmarket, Ont.
Year of eligibility: Fifth

Sarah Charnock of the U SPORTS No. 7-ranked Acadia Axewomen soccer team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending Sept. 22, 2019.

A fifth-year keeper from Newmarket, Ont., Charnock backstopped the Axewomen to two weekend wins over the Dalhousie Tigers and the U SPORTS No. 2-ranked Cape Breton Capers.

Acadia earned a 1-0 win over the Tigers Friday night in Wolfville, N.S. Charnock had two saves in the win.

She made another four saves Sunday as the Axewomen topped the two-time defending AUS champion Capers 2-1.  She was named Subway Player of the Game for her efforts.

Tane Caubo of the StFX X-Men soccer team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending Sept. 22, 2019.

A fourth-year arts student from London, England, Caubo had eight points in two games this weekend for the X-Men.

In StFX’s 6-1 win over the Mount Allison Mounties Saturday in Sackville, N.B., he scored a hat trick, including the game-winning goal. He was named Subway Player of the Game for his efforts.

Sunday in Fredericton, N.B., the X-Men tied the U SPORTS No. 8-ranked UNB Reds 3-3. Caubo had two goals and an assist in the draw.
