Memorial's Roberts and Saint Mary's Peverill named Subway AUS Athletes of the Week

(HALIFAX, N.S.) Memorial Sea-Hawks women's cross country runner Jade Roberts and Saint Mary's Huskies men's cross country runner Andrew Peverill have been named the Subway AUS Athletes of the Week for their respective performances for this past week.

FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Name: Jade Roberts
University: Memorial University
Sport: Women’s Cross Country
Hometown: Twillingate, N.L.
Year of eligibility: Second

Jade Roberts of the Memorial Sea-Hawks women’s cross country team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending Oct. 27, 2019.

In her second year of eligibility, the Twillingate, N.L. native raced to a gold medal finish and AUS Athlete of the Year honours at the Subway AUS Cross Country Championships hosted this past Saturday by UNB.

Roberts ran the women’s 8km race in a time of 30:23.0—20 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. She was also named to the AUS all-star team.

Her win helped lead the Sea-Hawks to team bronze at the AUS championship.

Andrew Peverill of the Saint Mary’s Huskies men’s cross country team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending Oct. 27, 2019.

A third-year commerce student from Sackville, N.S., Peverill earned a gold medal at the Subway AUS Cross Country Championships hosted this past Saturday by UNB.

His time of 25:18.0 was 22 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. He was named AUS Athlete of the Year and an AUS all-star for his efforts.

Name: Sarah Charnock
University: Acadia University
Sport: Women’s Soccer
Position: Keeper
Hometown: Newmarket, Ont.
Year of eligibility: Fifth

Sarah Charnock of the U SPORTS No. 7-ranked Acadia Axewomen soccer team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending Sept. 22, 2019.

A fifth-year keeper from Newmarket, Ont., Charnock backstopped the Axewomen to two weekend wins over the Dalhousie Tigers and the U SPORTS No. 2-ranked Cape Breton Capers.

Acadia earned a 1-0 win over the Tigers Friday night in Wolfville, N.S. Charnock had two saves in the win.

She made another four saves Sunday as the Axewomen topped the two-time defending AUS champion Capers 2-1.  She was named Subway Player of the Game for her efforts.

Tane Caubo of the StFX X-Men soccer team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending Sept. 22, 2019.

A fourth-year arts student from London, England, Caubo had eight points in two games this weekend for the X-Men.

In StFX’s 6-1 win over the Mount Allison Mounties Saturday in Sackville, N.B., he scored a hat trick, including the game-winning goal. He was named Subway Player of the Game for his efforts.

Sunday in Fredericton, N.B., the X-Men tied the U SPORTS No. 8-ranked UNB Reds 3-3. Caubo had two goals and an assist in the draw.
