Dalhousie's Michelle Reddy wins first cross country race of AUS season

(FREDERICTON, N.B.) - Michelle Reddy (Sarnia, Ont.), of the Dalhousie Tigers was first across the line in today's Atlantic University Sport women's cross country season-opener, in Fredericton.

Reddy won the UNB-STU Invitational in a time of 23:40.

Universite de Moncton's Carol-Ann MacDonald ran second, in 23:49, and Acadia's Katie Robinson was third.

Jenna Keilty was the top Varsity Reds finisher, crossing the line in 13th place, in a time of 24:59.

"I kept it comfortable for about the first 5K, then just brought it in from there," said race winner Reddy. "It was the first run of the season, we keep it pretty relaxed, so it was nice to get out there and treat it as a workout."

The St FX women took the team event over Acadia and Dal.

UNB finished fourth in the team event.

Excited by a top 15 finish for one of his runners, new Varsity Reds coach Chris Belof says there is still work to do.

"There's a lot of work to do on the women's side, but Jenna's been doing a great job as a first year and others have stepped up huge."
