Axewomen rally back from 2-0 deficit for match win versus Moncton

(WOLFVILLE N.S.) - Returning home after the holidays, the Acadia Axewomen started the second half of their regular season schedule against the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues.

Moncton went up two sets early but Acadia would complete the comeback and take the game three sets to two.

Both teams traded points in the first set to begin the game, but midway through the game, the Aigles Bleues would break away and take the set 25-16.

Despite four straight points for Acadia late in the second set, Moncton would claim the second as well, 25-21 on a kill by Christelle Bertin. Bertin had 10 kills and 19 digs in the match.

Down 12-9 in the third set, it looked as though UdeM would take the game in three sets, but the Axewomen rallied off of six straight points to claim a 15-12 advantage. Acadia claimed the third set 25-20 and trailed two sets to one.

In the fourth, once again it looked as if the Aigles Bleues would seal the victory in four, but a 9-2 Acadia run gave the Axewomen the lead and a bad set by Moncton saw Acadia take the fourth set 25-22.

In the fifth and final set, the Axewomen were determined to get the win in front of the rallying home crowd. Beginning with a 4-0 advantage, Acadia won the final set 15-8, claiming the match in five games.

Veronique Carroll was the Subway player of the game for Moncton. Carroll had 35 assists, nine digs and two kills, while teammate Alyssa Turenne added 11 kills and five digs for the Aigles Bleues.

First-year outside hitter Kaitlyn Franklin was the Subway player of the game for the Axewomen. Franklin played strong, posting nine kills and a hitting percentage of 0.286 and adding two timely service aces and nine digs.

Second-year hard hitter Sarah Ross had 14 kills and Jazmin Logue-Prest added 10 kills along with 17 digs.

Acadia improves to 2-8 and will travel to Halifax to play the 3-8 Dalhousie Tigers tomorrow before travelling to Cape Breton next weekend. The Aigles Bleues will have the rest of the weekend off before heading home to play Saint Mary's next week.
