Tigers take down Axewomen 3-0

(HALIFAX, N.S.) - This Sunday's home court victory for the Tigers of 3-0 (25-15, 14-24, 25-16) brings them to a 4-6 record, good for third in AUS standings.

The Axewomen drop into sixth place with a record of 2-9. The Subway player of the game was Dalhousie's Mieke Dumont who had 11 kills and eight digs.

The Tigers started strong and took the first set 25-15. The set began with the Tigers holding a small lead over the Axewomen. Nearing the end of the set the Tigers were able to strengthen that lead jumping from 10-13 to 14-22 with kills from Anna Dunn-Suen and Jessica Josenhans.

Marissa Chin of the Axewomen ended the set well bringing Acadia three of their last four points, but it wasn't enough to come back and take the set.

The Tigers jumped out to a 13-4 lead in the second set and continued to dominate the rest of the set, resulting in a final score of 25-14.

In the third and final set, the Axewomen were down early on once again, forced to battle to to try and close the Tigers' 10-4 lead.

Chin served tough, narrowing the Tigers lead to just two points, but that was as close as they would get. The Tigers notched 11 kills in the set compared to the Axewomen's six, resulting in a  final score of 25-16 and a straight set victory for the Tigers.

Dumont led the Tigers with 11 kills and 12 points, while Alexandra Hudson added 10 points of her own to the game.  Marissa Mota led the team with 11 digs and Abby Czenze gave the Tigers a staggering 31 assists.

The Axewomen were led by Hillary Monette who led the game defensively with 12 digs, while Sarah Ross and Chin each managed seven kills throughout the game.

Both teams face the Cape Breton Capers in away games next weekend. The Axewomen on Jan. 17 and the Tigers on the 18th. Both games get underway at 2 p.m.
