Huskies down Acadia 3-2 in home opener

(HALIFAX,N.S.) - The SMU Huskies defeated the Acadia Axewomen 3-2 in Atlantic University Sport women's volleyball action Sunday afternoon.

Rachel Windhorst had 18 kills and 20 total points to pace Saint Mary's, who won by scores of 25-17, 20-25, 21-25, 25-15, and 15-6.

Also scoring for the Huskies were Shelby Michaels with15 kills, Maddie Clark 11 kills, Shelby Charlton seven kills and Erin Smith added five kills.

Carlotta Frasca had nine kills and 13 total points while Hillary Monette had 25 digs for Acadia. Fiona McGuinty added eight kills and Katarina Kalajdzic chipped in with seven kills for the Axewomen.

Through eight games, Saint Mary's leads the AUS with 325 kills, 316 service aces, and 450 digs. The Huskies also lead in total points 462.0, as well as their 14.0 points per set is the conference's top mark.

SMU (5-3) sits in first place with 10 points while Acadia (1-8) has two points.

The Huskies visit the Cape Breton Capers Nov. 22 at 7 p.m. for their final game before the winter break, while the Axewomen have played their final regular season game of this semester. 

They take to the court next on Jan. 10 when they host the Moncton Aigles Bleues.
