Lauren Adam from the Varsity Reds women's swim team has been nominated by UNB for the 2016 James Bayer Memorial Scholarship Award.

She also swam to three first-place finishes and a second-place finish at the UNB invitational meet, as well as two first-place and two second-place finishes at the Acadia invitational meet this season.

Adam is a two-time academic all-Canadian, on pace to earn the honour for her third consecutive year.

In both the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons, she earned the Edwin Jacob Special University Scholarship and the George & Elaine Andrews Memorial Scholarship in Athletics.

Adam was also awarded the 2015-16 Alumni Merit Award, and the 2015-16 Helen Neill Campbell Merit Award for her successful season both in the classroom and in the pool.

Along with her efforts in sport and academics, she is heavily involved in her community. Adam volunteers with the Stan Cassidy Rehabilitation Centre and Restorative Health Centre, assisting therapists and guiding physio patients in exercises.

She is also a volunteer with the SPCA in Oromocto, the Hospice Boutique at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital and the Parish of Sts. John and Paul in New Maryland, N.B.

"Lauren embodies what being a student-athlete is all about," said Varsity Reds swimming coach Robin Ferdinand. "Her marks are top of the class, she is one of the top breaststroke swimmers in the conference and, on top of that, she finds time to reach out to the community. She is dedicated to everything she takes on."
