Axewomen and Capers clinch first round byes with weekend sweeps

The Acadia Axewomen and Cape Breton Capers both earn first round byes in the AUS women's soccer playoffs after sweeping their weekend games.

The Axewomen shutout the Dalhousie Tigers on Friday night, with Jenna Boudreau being the difference maker as she scored two unassisted goals to lead Acadia to victory. The Axewomen then handed the UPEI Panthers a 2-0 loss on Saturday night to remain undefeated and extend their record to 10-0-1 on the season.

The Capers blanked the StFX X-Women on Friday evening, with senior Ciera Disipio scoring a pair of goals on the night to earn Subway Player of the Game honours. Cape Breton then earned a convincing 8-2 win over the Mount Allison Mounties on Sunday afternoon, with Disipio being the difference maker once again, scoring a hattrick in the victory.

The Huskies extended their winning streak to five over the weekend, allowing them to earn a playoff berth with a 1-0 penalty kick win over over the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleues on Friday evening, and a 3-2 victory over the Mount Allison Mounties on Saturday.

The UNB Reds hosted the Memorial Sea-Hawks on Saturday afternoon, earning a 2-1 win at home. The Sea-Hawks then visited the Aigles Bleues on Sunday afternoon, playing to a 0-0 draw.

After falling to the Axewomen on Friday, the Tigers bounced back on Sunday afternoon to earn a 2-1 win over the UPEI Panthers.

The Axewomen, Capers, Huskies, Tigers, and X-Women have now clinched playoff berths as we head into the final week of regular season play.
