Women's soccer quarterfinal #2: Noseworthy-Smith nets lone goal as Axewomen knock out host Tigers

(HALIFAX, N.S.) – The Acadia Axewomen defeated the Dalhousie Tigers Friday afternoon by a score of 1-0 in the second quarterfinal match of the 2014 Subway AUS women's soccer championship at Dalhousie's Wickwire Field.

With the win, the Axewomen move on to play the UNB Varsity Reds in the first semifinal game at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1. The second semifinal will see the Cape Breton Capers play the Memorial Sea-Hawks at 2 p.m.

Kinsella Noseworthy-Smith scored the only goal of the match in the 61st minute on a shot that bounced off the post and in.

Dalhousie keeper Katie Morgan turned aside three shots while Acadia keeper  Caroline Wood stopped four.

"It was a tough battle as we expected," said Amit Batra, head coach of the Axewomen. "The level of competition in the AUS is extremely high and we expect the same type of gritty battle tomorrow."

The winners of tomorrow's semifinal games will play each other in the championship on Sunday, Nov. 2 at 2 p.m. to determine the AUS women's soccer champions.
