(WOLFVILLE N.S.) - The undefeated Acadia Axewomen (5-0-5) took on the fourth-place Dalhousie Tigers (5-3-1) to kick off homecoming weekend at Acadia's Raymond Field.
It appeared as though Dalhousie would hand the Axewomen their first loss of the season but a late Acadia goal tied the game at one.
It was a difficult start to the game for the Axewomen who were out of sync for much of the first half. Dalhousie on the other hand came out poised and ready to play. The Tigers controlled the ball for most of the half with many opportune chances.
With 10 minutes remaining in the half, first year Dalhousie striker Jensen Hudder received a pass from the left wing and sent the ball into the net past diving Acadia keeper Caroline Wood. The resulting 1-0 score would be carried into halftime.
Coming out of halftime, the Axewomen showed glimpses of cohesion but were unable to put together enough of a run to break through the Tigers defensive curtain.
Wood, who was the eventual Subway player of the game for the Axewomen, kept her team in the game with an assortment of saves.
But with the clock off, and a Tigers win in sight Acadia made one last push to tie the game. The ball was shot on net and Dalhousie keeper Katherine Morgan slowed the ball down but Acadia's Emily Nickerson hammered it home.
Morgan made three saves on the night while Wood saved 11 shots.
With the tie, both teams earn one point and Dalhousie moves into third place in the AUS standings. Meanwhile the Axewomen fall to second as UNB won their game earlier in the evening.
The Tigers heads home to take on UPEI tomorrow afternoon, while Acadia will host Cape Breton on Sunday in their final home game of the regular season.
