Huskies and Tommies earn sweeps in opening weekend

The Saint Mary's Huskies and St. Thomas Tommies both earned weekend sweeps in the first week of AUS women's hockey action.

The Huskies kicked off the 2018-19 AUS women's hockey season against the Dalhousie Tigers Wednesday night. It took three periods, and a second overtime, but the Huskies came away with a 3-2 victory. Saint Mary's then visited the Mount Allison Mounties on Friday night, earning the 2-0 shutout win.

The Tommies opened their season with a convincing 4-0 win over the UPEI Panthers Friday evening, and finished the weekend off with a 2-1 double overtime victory over the UNB Reds on Sunday afternoon.

The Tigers bounced back from their double overtime loss to the Huskies with a 4-3 shooutout win over the StFX X-Women Friday night in Antigonish.

On Saturday, the X-Women visited the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleues, earning a 5-2 victory, while the UNB Reds fell 2-1 to the Mounties in their return to the AUS.

The Panthers hosted the Aigles Bleues on Sunday afternoon, skating to a 6-3 victory on home ice.
