Aigles Bleues post 4-3 win over Panthers in Game 1 of quarterfinals

(MONCTON, N.B.) - The Moncton Aigles Bleues managed a 5-4 win over the UPEI Panthers in Game 1 of the Subway AUS Women's Hockey Playoffs quarter-final series Saturday evening at the J.-Louis-Lévesque Arena in Moncton. 

The game winner was the lone goal of the third period. Moncton's Brittany Poitras scored the tie-breaking goal on the power play (assisted by Katherine Dubuc and Karine Roy), with 4:26 left to play.

Moncton was led by Subway Player of the Game Katryne Villeneuve who led the Aigles Bleues' offence with a hat trick, including two power-play goals. She also added an assist

Karine Roy added two assists for Moncton in the win. 

Rachel Colle was named Subway Player of the Game for the Panthers in the loss. She an teammate Emma Martin had a goal apiece for UPEI, while Sydnee Baker added the other two goals.

Moncton had a 26-15 edge on shots on goal and only allowed three in the third period. Gabrielle Forget registered the win in nets and Marie-Soleil Deschênesthe loss 

Moncton was 3-for-on the power play and the Panthers, 2-for-4.

The second game of the best-of-three series will be played Sunday afternoon at 5 p.m. in Charlottetown, P.E.I. 

The winner will advance to the semifinals where they will face the Saint Mary's Huskies who received a bye to the second round.
