AUS Women's Hockey Weekly Roundup: Week 6

Thursday, November 19

UPEI 1 at Mount Allison 2 (Box Score)

The Mount Allison Mounties hosted the UPEI Panthers in Sackville on Thursday evening. The Mounties were the first on the board with a power-play tally from freshman forward Heather Richards at 17:21 in the first period. After a scoreless second period, Mounties sophomore forward Gabrielle Vautour scored just over two minutes into the final frame. At 10:34 in the third, UPEI third-year forward Cornelia Geib scored to cut the Mounties lead to one, but it would not be enough as Mount Allison held on for a 2-1 victory over UPEI.

 

Saturday, November 21

Moncton 1 at Saint Mary's 3 (Box Score)

The Moncton Aigles Bleues travelled to Halifax to face the Saint Mary's Huskies on Saturday afternoon. After a scoreless first two periods, The Aigles Bleues were the first on the board with a power-play tally from fifth-year forward Marie-Pier Arsenault just over two minutes into the third period. At 07:16 in the third frame, Saint Mary's third-year forward Breanna Lanceleve tied the game at 1-1, until a tally from teammate Celine Van de Molen gave the Huskies the 2-1 edge. With just 10 seconds left in regulation, a short-handed empty net goal from Saint Mary's Sarah Douglas allowed the Huskies to take a 3-1 victory over the Aigles Bleues.

Sunday, November 22

Mount Allison 5 at StFX 3 (Box Score)

The StFX X-Women hosted the Mount Allison Mounties in Antigonish on Sunday afternoon. The Mounties opened the scoring in the first period with a power-play tally from fourth-year forward Samantha Bujold to take a one goal lead after the first. At 07:27 into the second frame, StFX freshman forward Kara Power put the X-Women on the board to tie the game at 1-1. However, a tally from Mount Allison fourth-year forward Mackenzie Lalonde, and a power-play goal from teammate Kara Anthony allowed the Mounties to regain their lead and hold a 3-1 edge heading into the third. Just 36 seconds into the final frame, Mount Allison freshman forward Heather Richards put the Mounties ahead by three. Two back-to-back StFX goals from fourth-year forward Connor Garagan and Kara Power (short-handed), put the X-Women within one. However, it would not be enough as a power-play goal goal from Mounties fourth-year forward Shelby Colton with under two minutes left in regulation gave Mount Allison the 5-3 victory.

St. Thomas 0 at Saint Mary's 2 (Box Score)

The St. Thomas Tommies visited Halifax on Sunday afternoon to face the Saint Mary's Huskies. The Huskies were the first on the board with a goal from third-year forward Laura Polak at 09:50 in the opening frame. After a scoreless second period, Saint Mary's Laura Polak scored the lone goal of the third, and her second of the game to lead the Huskies to a 2-0 win over the Tommies. In net for the Huskies was freshman goaltender Rebecca Clark, stopping all 18 shots she faced, earning the shutout.

Moncton 4 at Dalhousie 3 (Box Score)

The Dalhousie Tigers hosted the Moncton Aigles Bleues on Sunday evening. The Tigers opened the scoring in the first period with a power-play goal at 04:40 from third-year forward Lisa MacLean. A power-play goal from Moncton sophomore forward Katryne Villeneuve at 10:59 in the same frame tied the game at 1-1. At 17:34, Dalhousie regained their lead with a tally from third-year forward Courtney Sheedy, but Moncton quickly tied it up again with a power-play goal from Marie-Pier Corriveau late in the first. In the second, a goal from Moncton fifth-year forward Kaitlyn Gallaway put the Aigles Bleues ahead by one, but the game would soon be tied at 3-3 with a goal from Dalhousie freshman forward Tara Morning. The lone goal of the third was a power-play tally from Moncton fifth-year forward Amélie Dion at the 13 minute mark, allowing the Aigles Bleues to earn the 4-3 victory over the Tigers.
