(HALIFAX, N.S.) - A power play goal by Laura Polak (Bedford, N.S.) at 10:28 of the first period proved to be the difference as the Saint Mary's Huskies beat the UPEI Panthers 2-1 Saturday evening at Alumni Arena.

The decisive goal was assisted by Breanna Lanceleve (Middle Sackville, N.S.). Polak's goal earned her Subway player of the game honours.

Saint Mary's wasted little time getting on the board as Mary Worndl (Kitchener, Ont.) scored at 1:30 of the first to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead.

The teams went scoreless in the second period.

In the third, with the score 2-0 for Saint Mary's, UPEI got on the board when Laura Bradley (Morell, P.E.I.) notched a power play tally at 7:38 to make it 2-1. It was as close as the Panthers would get.

The goal was assisted by Margaret Grimmer (Charlottetown, P.E.I.) and Keirstin Visser (Crapaud, P.E.I.).

The Huskies outshot the Panthers by a margin of 41-17. Justine McIntosh (East St. Paul, Man.) made 16 saves to get the win in goal for the Huskies and Marie- Soleil Deschenes (Ile- Perrot, Que.) stopped 39 shots in goal for the Panthers.

The Huskies are right back at it against the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Alumni Arena.

The Panthers hit the ice next against the St. Thomas Tommies this Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Fredericton.
