(ANTIGONISH, N.S.) - Alex Normore, a native of Bedford, N.S. is the all-time leading scorer for the StFX X-Women hockey program.

The fifth-year senior forward set the record with an assist in the first period on a power play goal by Kara Power (New Glasgow, N.S.) in the X-Women's 4-2 win over the St. Thomas Tommies Sunday afternoon at the Charles V. Keating Centre.

The helper gave Normore 197 points, pushing her ahead of former X-Women forward Brayden Ferguson, who garnered 196, including 105 goals and 91 assists, in her stellar five-year career in the blue and white from 2004 to 2009.

"It definitely feels good. I owe so much to my teammates and coaches who pushed me every single practice over the past five years. I wouldn't have been able to do it without them," Normore said after the game.

With the assist, Normore also became the second leading scorer in AUS history, trailing only former Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues forward Marieve Provost, who collected 220 points in her five-year career, which makes her the all-time CIS point-getter.

Normore is now fourth on that impressive list, with Ferguson, a former CIS player of the year, garnering the fifth position.

"It is an honour to play with her. It is great to come to the rink with her every day. She is incredible," Power said of Normore.

The record-setting goal from Power, at 12:20, knotted the game 1-1. "I was able to get in front of the net and I was lucky to get my stick on it," she said. Fifth-year senior defender Jenna Downey (Stratford, Ont.) collected the other assist.

At 7:01 of the first period, Becky Conner (East St. Paul, Man.) opened the scoring for the Tommies on the power play. Myfanwy Thomson (Stittsville, Ont.) and Emily Francis (Barrie, Ont.) assisted.

The CIS No. 7-ranked X-Women outshot the Tommies 10-4 in the opening frame.

Normore, with her second point of the game, scored on the power play to give the X-Women their first lead of the afternoon. Sophomore defender Heather Tillsley (Aurora, Ont.) assisted at the 8:23 mark of the second period.

At 13:34, second-year forward Daley Oddy (Cranbrook, B.C.) stretched the X-Women lead to 3-1, with the lone assist going to Normore.

In the third period, freshman defender Nicole Halladay (Smith Falls, Ont.) roofed a wrist shot from the top of the slot to extend the X-Women lead to 4-1. Normore, with her fourth point of the game and 200th for her career, notched the assist. The power play goal came at 4:51.

Just over one minute later, at 5:52, Lauren Henman (Cow Bay, N.S.) sliced the X-Women advantage to 4-2. Stephanie Ford (Cobourg, Ont.) collected the only assist on the marker.

Sojung Shin (Seoul, Korea) made 15 saves for the win, while Taylor Cook (Brantford, Ont.) steered aside 27 shots in the loss.

Shots favored the X-Women at 31-17, as they improve to 17-1 on the season, winning their 16th consecutive game atop the AUS conference.

Normore garnered first star and Subway player of the game honours for her four-point effort. Power and Conner were the second and third stars, respectively.

The third place Tommies drop to 8-9-1.

Both teams will be back on the ice for a rematch Saturday, Jan. 24 in Fredericton. Puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m.
