(CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I.) - Mount Allison capitalized on their chances to beat UPEI 4-1 at MacLauchlan Arena in Charlottetown in front of 90 fans on Sunday night.

With the win, the Mounties improve to 5-12-1 on the season and sit in seventh place in the AUS, while the Panthers fall to 6-9-2 and sit fifth in the conference standings.

UPEI honoured FOUR seniors before the game, but could not back up the ceremony with a victory.

Despite being significantly outshot in the first period (19-8), Mount Allison put two goals in the back of the net, feeding off the stellar goaltending of Kate O'Brien (Greenwood, N.S.).

Kara Anthony (Toronto, Ont.) scored both goals in the first 20 minutes for the Mounties. The first goal came 3:15 in, and was unassisted while the second goal came with under four minutes left in the period and was set up by Lindsay James (Halifax, N.S.).

In the second period, both teams took nine shots on goal. O'Brien continued her great play for the Mounties allowing them to press, which led to two more goals before the second period was finished.

Mackenzie Lalonde (Stittsville, Ont.) scored less than two minutes into the period. Assists went to Samantha Bujold (Rothesay, N.B.) and Anthony for her third point of the game. The second goal of the period came off a misplayed puck by UPEI goalie Marie-Soleil Deschenes (Île-Perrot, Que.), which led to a tap-in goal for Kelsey MacDougall (Pennfield, N.B.).

In the third, Mount Allison outshot UPEI 8-5, but could not put any shots in the net. UPEI finally scored two minutes in on a shot by Cornelia Geib (Calgary, Alta.). Assists went to Courtney Stewart (Bayview, P.E.I.) and Laura Bradley (St. Teresa, P.E.I.) on the goal.

Kate O'Brien stopped 32 of the 33 shots she faced in the game for Mount A while UPEI's Marie-Soleil Deschenes stopped 21 of the 25 taken on her.

The Subway player of the game was Kara Anthony for Mount Allison.

UPEI and Mount Allison will have a rematch in Sackville on Friday, Jan. 23 at 7 p.m.
