Huskies edge Tigers 2-1

(HALIFAX, N.S.) - Gemma Macdonald (Blooming Point, P.E.I.) scored the winning goal on the power play at 17:35 of the third period as the Saint Mary's Huskies defeated the Dalhousie Tigers 2-1 Sunday afternoon at Alumni Arena.

The deciding goal was assisted by Jenelle Rogers (Marystown, N.L.) and Selby Jessiman (Brandon, Man.). Macdonald's clutch marker earned her Subway player of the game honours.

After a scoreless first period,  Dalhousie got on the board first, when Victoria MacIntosh (Hammonds Plains, N.S.) tallied at 13:09 of the second period, with assists from Sarah Robichaud (Weymouth, N.S.) and Morgan Kidney (Moncton, N.B.).  That 1-0 lead for the Tigers would carry through to the end of the second period.  

In the third period, the Huskies responded when Sarah Douglas scored a power play tally at 15:47, with assists from Rogers and Brianna Soper (Oshawa, Ont.) to tie the game at 1-1.

The Huskies outshot the Tigers 23-22 in the contest. Rebecca Weagle (Lunenburg, N.S.) made 21 saves to get the win in goal for Saint Mary's. Jessica Severeyns (Hammonds Plains, N.S.) also made 21 saves in the Tigers' goal.

The Huskies travel to Antigonish on Friday night to face the St. Francis Xavier X-Women in Antigonish. The Tigers' next game is this Wednesday at 7 p.m. as well against the Mount Allison Mounties at the Halifax Forum.
