(FREDERICTON, N.B.) - The St. Thomas Tommies downed the Mount Allison Mounties 4-1 in AUS women's hockey action Saturday afternoon in front of 146 fans at the Grant-Harvey Centre.

Becky Conner, Lauren Henman, Teah Anderson, and Kelty Apperson all found the back of the net for the Tommies, while Paige MacDonald picked up two assists in the win.

Amanda Volcko was the lone goal scorer for the Mounties.

Becky Conner opened the scoring midway through the first to put the Tommies up 1-0. Lauren Henman followed suit two minutes later, profiting from a Mounties turnover and beating Keri Martin with a shot from the slot.

In the last four minutes of the frame, the Tommies took three consecutive penalties. The Mounties pressured—outshooting the Tommies 17-6 in the frame—but Abby Clarke stood tall in net for the Tommies to maintain their two-goal advantage after 20 minutes.

"I was a little worried after the first period what we were going to get in the rest of this game, but it seemed to settle itself out," Tommies head coach Peter Murphy said after the game.

The Mounties hit the score sheet midway through the second when Amanda Volcko buried a nice dish from Mackenzie Lalonde. The Mounties continued to create scoring chances—they outshot the Tommies by five—but couldn't find the equalizer before the end of the period.

"I thought they definitely out-played us in the second period," Murphy said. "It was maybe a little bit of a reversal of last week, but we'll take it going into tomorrow."

Teah Anderson reclaimed the Tommies two-goal lead 11 minutes into the third after tipping a shot from Eliza Snider past Martin. With two minutes to go, the Mounties pulled Martin for the extra attacker and the Tommies took advantage—Kelty Apperson added an empty-netter at 18:14 to put the game out of reach.

With the win, the Tommies move to 7-6 on the season, while the Mounties fall to 4-8.

The Tommies are back in action tomorrow when they travel to Halifax to face the Dalhousie Tigers in their last game before the break. The Mounties will kick off the second half of the season on the road Jan. 10 when they take on the Saint Mary's Huskies.
