AUS Women's Basketball Weekly Round Up: Week 11

Thursday, Feb. 15

Dalhousie 53 vs. Acadia 93 (Box Score)
(WOLFVILLE, N.S.) The Acadia records keep falling, this time second year Axewoman Haley McDonald broke the record for three-point shots made in a season once held by Emma Duinker. McDonald, named the Subway Player of the Game, posted a game-high 32 points that included four threes needed to break Duinker's record. Four Axewomen scored in double digits including McDonald's 32 points. Paloma Anderson netted 16 points and added 12 rebounds, while teammate Allie Berry scored 18 points and had 13 rebounds. Chanel Smith drained two shots from the distant arc and added 10 points to the team total. Dalhousie's Michele Tchiakoua had 13 points off the bench with teammate Ariel Provo adding 10 points in the loss. Read more: Recap 


Friday, Feb. 16

UPEI 80 vs. UNB 58 (Box Score)
(FREDERICTON, N.B.) The UNB Varsity Reds dug an early hole Friday night, and couldn't pull themselves out of it as they fell 80-58 to the visiting UPEI Panthers. Kiera Rigby scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Panthers, and earn Subway Player of the Game honours. Reese Baxendale added 16 points in the win, with teammate Jenna Mae Ellsworth scoring 14. Mikaela Dodig and Hannah Currie scored nine points each to lead the Varsity Reds. Cape Breton 59 vs. Saint Mary's 58 (Box Score)
(HALIFAX, N.S.) The Saint Mary's Huskies dropped a tough 59-58 decision on Friday evening to the visiting Cape Breton University Capers in Atlantic university sport women's basketball action from the Homburg Centre. Allison Keough poured in 27 points and 19 rebounds in the win for Cape Breton. The 6-foot-1 forward went 10 for 14 from in field in forty minutes of action. Shanieka Wood finished with 19 points and nine rebounds in SMU's loss while teammates Jasmine Cain scored eight and Katrina Murrell added seven. Saturday, Feb. 17

Cape Breton 62 vs. Saint Mary's 50 (Box Score)
(HALIFAX, N.S.) The visiting Cape Breton University Capers got their 2nd straight win over the Saint Mary's Huskies, with a 62-50 victory in Atlantic university sport women's basketball action from the Homburg Centre. Alison Keough paced all scorers with 17 points and 17 rebounds in the Capers' win as the Marion Bridge, Nova Scotia native added five blocks as well. Fifth-year SMU forward Katrina Murrell led SMU with 14 points and added seven rebounds in the loss, as SMU drops to 10-8 in conference play. UPEI 66 vs. UNB 77 (Box Score)
(FREDERICTON, N.B.) For the second night in a row, the UNB Varsity Reds dug themselves into a hole in the early going. But, on Saturday, UNB was able to pull itself out. The Varsity Reds scored a 77-66 win over the visiting UPEI Panthers. Laura Kaye led the Varsity Reds, scoring 14 points, including the 1000th regular season point of her career. Krystal Osburn added 11 points for UNB, with teammate Grace Wade scoring seven to be named the Subway Player of the Game. Jenna Mae Ellsworth led all scorers with 21 points for the Panthers, while Reese Baxendale added 15 in the loss. Acadia 92 vs. Dalhousie 72 (Box Score)
(HALIFAX, N.S.) In their final home game of the season, the Dalhousie Tigers faced off against the Acadia Axewomen in Saturday night action. Acadia pushed the pace throughout the game and used their transition to get an early lead and hold on to it. The Axewomen came away with the 92-72 win. Haley McDonald earned the Subway Player of the Game honour with her game high 27 points and four rebounds. Allie Berry finished close behind her with 25 points and eight rebounds. Diedre Alexander led the Tigers in scoring in her final home game, finishing with 18 points, four rebounds and five assists. Memorial 73 vs. StFX 65 (Box Score)
(ANTIGONISH, N.S.) The Memorial Sea-Hawks mounted a comeback in the fourth quarter to defeat the StFX X-Women 73-65 Saturday night at the StFX Oland Centre. Down for the majority of the game, the visitors outscored the StFX squad 26-12 in the final quarter to take the win. Subway player of the game Brooklynn Wright scored a game-high 19 points and Lindsay Taylor netted 18 to lead the Sea-Hawks in the victory. Wright also hauled in eight rebounds and had a pair of blocks. StFX player of the game Kim Kingsbury was the high scorer for her team, netting 16 and adding six rebounds. Read more: Recap

Sunday, Feb. 18

Memorial 73 vs. StFX 54 (Box Score)
(ANTIGONISH, N.S.) The visiting Memorial Sea-Hawks won their second consecutive game in as many days overt the X-Women, this time it was a 72-54 victory on Sunday afternoon at the StFX Oland Centre. Hayley Nickerson contributed 14 points off the Sea-Hawks bench for the win, and Subway player of the game Cameron Longley scored 13, also off the bench. Longley also had eight rebounds in the game and Nickerson hauled in five. Maggie Segeren earned StFX player of the game honours for her eight-point effort from the bench. Kim Kingsbury contributed seven points and Caroline Hrabinski was the top rebounder with nine on the afternoon. Read more: Recap
