AUS Women's Basketball Weekly Round Up: Week 1

Wednesday, Nov. 1

StFX 58 vs. Dalhousie 60 (Box Score)
(HALIFAX, N.S.) In the first game of the regular season, the Dalhousie Tigers played host to the StFX X-Women, Wednesday night at the Dalplex. After finding themselves in a 12-point deficit early, the Tigers were able to fight back in the third quarter and take the lead by the fourth. With a dramatic finish, the Tigers were able to hold on for the 60-58 win to start the season. Read more: Recap

Cape Breton 63 vs. UNB 78 (Box Score)
(FREDERICTON, N.B.) The UNB Varsity Reds opened the 2017-18 season on a winning note after hosting the Cape Breton Capers Friday night. The V-Reds built a 16-point half time lead on the Capers, on route to a 78-63 win. Mikaela Dodig (Bolton, ON) scored 19 points to lead the Varsity Reds. Read more: Recap

UPEI 52 vs. Saint Mary's 60 (Box Score)
(HALIFAX, N.S.) The Saint Mary's Huskies opened up their 2017-18 Atlantic University Sport women's basketball season on Friday night with a 60-52 victory over the visiting UPEI Panthers. Kennisha-Shanice Luberisse (Montreal, QC) recorded a double-double in SMU's win, scoring 18 points and grabbing 11 rebounds while teammate Katrina Murrell (Markham, ON) had 13 points and eight rebounds. Cape Breton 66 vs. UNB 78 (Box Score)
(FREDERICTON, N.B.) The UNB Varsity Reds are 2-0 to start the Atlantic University Sport season after a 78-66 win over the Cape Breton University Capers Saturday afternoon, at UNB's Richard J. Currie Center. Laura Kaye (Fredericton, NB) led the Varsity Reds with 22 points, while teammate Hannah Currie (Collingwood, ON) had 10 rebounds. Reigning AUS MVP Alison Keough (Marion Bridge, NS) led the CBU effort recording a double-double. She scored 22 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Read more: Recap

Memorial 62 vs. Acadia 91 (Box Score)
(WOLFVILLE, N.S.) The U SPORTS No. 3 ranked Acadia Axewomen opened the 2017-18 AUS regular season with a convincing 92-61 win over the visiting Memorial Sea-Hawks. Axewoman Allie Berry was named the Subway Player of the Game for her outstanding inside game that offered 20 points and nine rebounds. For the Sea-Hawks Sydney Stewart netted a team high 18 points. Dalhousie 51 vs. StFX 48 (Box Score)
(ANTIGONISH, N.S.) The Dalhousie Tigers earned their second win in as many games, both at the expense of the StFX X-Women. Saturday's 51-48 victory at StFX Oland Stadium followed up on their 60-58 win Wednesday night in Halifax. Robertha Charles (Montreal, QC) led the Tigers in scoring with 14 points and added 6 rebounds, while Chelsea Provo (East Preston, NS) was the top X-Women scorer with 14 points on the night along with 8 rebounds and a pair of steals. UPEI 58 vs. Saint Mary's 46 (Box Score)
(HALIFAX, N.S.) The Saint Mary's Huskies lost the back-end of a weekend series with the UPEI Panthers 58-46 on Saturday night from the Homburg Centre. Kiera Rigby (Charlottetown, PE) paced all scorers with 19 points and shot 6 for 18 from the field in 37 minutes for UPEI. Shanieka Wood (Ajax, ON) led Saint Mary's with 14 points and added seven rebounds. Memorial 61 vs. Acadia 83 (Box Score)
(WOLFVILLE, N.S.) A dominant game in the paint was the storyline in the second game between the Acadia Axewomen and visiting Memorial Sea-Hawks. Acadia's Kelsey Rice captured the Subway Player of the Game honours with 15 points and an impressive 17 rebounds, while Sydney Stewart led Memorial with 14 points. Read more: Recap
