Jenna Mae Ellsworth of the UPEI Panthers women's basketball team is the Wilsons Security Defensive Player of the Week.

A first-year science student from Charlottetown, P.E.I., Ellsworth leads the Panthers and sits second in the Atlantic conference in steals, averaging 2.8 per game so far this season. 

She is also averaging 3.2 defensive rebounds per game for the UPEI defence.

This past weekend, the Panthers split their pair of games versus the UNB Varsity Reds.

In Friday's 52-46 loss, Ellsworth had a career-high six steals, along with two blocks and three defensive rebounds. She also had a team-high 14 points on offense for the Panthers.

Saturday, UPEI downed UNB 66-57. Ellsworth had three steals, two defensive rebounds and a block for the Panthers' defence. She also posted a game-high 19 points. 

In addition to her defensive prowess, Ellsworth is currently the Panthers' leading scorer, averaging 12.3 points per game. She also leads the UPEI squad in assists, averaging 3.3 per game. 

With Saturday's win, the Panthers officially clinched their spot in this year's AUS playoffs. Three weeks of regular season play remain. UPEI will next see action this weekend when they travel to St. John's, N.L. for two games at Memorial University.
