Guard Paloma Anderson of the Acadia Axewomen basketball team is the Wilsons Security Defensive Player of the Week.

A fourth-year arts student from Phoenix, Arizona, Anderson is the reigning AUS MVP. A force on defence as well as offence for the Axewomen, she currently leads the league in steals, averaging 3.3 per game so far this season.

The Acadia squad kicked off 2017 with two regular season wins. They downed the StFX X-Women 81-44 Friday in Antigonish, N.S. and followed that up with a 91-56 win over Dalhousie Tuesday in Halifax. 

Anderson recorded a game-high seven steals on defence for the Axewomen Friday night. She also led all scorers with 26 points to go along with four rebounds. She managed another five steals in Tuesday's win and added 13 points, five assists and five rebounds.

The five-foot-one guard is averaging 4.3 defensive rebounds per game for the Acadia defence so far this season. She also sits second in the AUS in points, averaging 23.2 per game.

The Acadia squad takes to the court next tomorrow night when they host the Saint Mary's Huskies at 6 p.m. in Wolfville, N.S.
