Centre Carolina Del Santo of the UPEI Panthers women's basketball team is the Wilsons Security Defensive Player of the Week.
A first-year science student from Barcelona, Spain, Del Santo put up an impressive defensive effort during her first-ever weekend of AUS play.
The Panthers topped the StFX X-Women in two weekend home games Friday and Saturday in Charlottetown. UPEI earned a 53-45 win Friday and won 71-43 Saturday.
The six-foot-one centre started in both games and had four defensive rebounds, three blocks and two steals for the Panthers' defence Friday. She followed this up with another strong defensive performance Saturday, tallying five defensive rebounds, three steals and two blocks.
Del Santo also led the UPEI offence, averaging 18.5 points and 11 total rebounds per game.
The Panthers now look ahead to this coming weekend when they will face the UNB Varsity Reds Friday and Saturday in Fredericton, N.B. Both games are set for 6 p.m.
