(FREDERICTON, N.B.) - The Memorial Sea-Hawks women's basketball team bested the UNB Varsity Reds  80-64 and go 2-0 at UNB this weekend. With the weekend's wins, Memorial picks up a big eight points in the AUS standings race to close out the regular season.

For the Varsity Reds, it was deja-vu all over again at the Richard J. Currie Center Saturday. UNB and Memorial swapped runs throughout the first three quarters and the Sea-Hawks took a one-point lead into the fourth. Colleen Daly made a three early in the quarter to give UNB their first lead of the second half. Memorial answered this with their own three and proceeded to go on a 26-eight run to end the game.

"I'm not really sure what happened, really. We battled hard, we just couldn't finish," said Colleen Daly on UNB's inability to close out the game. "We're going to work hard and get ready for playoffs."

Subway Player of the Game for Memorial was Megan Robinson (Waterloo, Ont.) who had 18 points, three rebounds and five assists. Tianna Brown (Douglas, Arizona) and Kelia Pond (Goulds, N.L.) also chipped in with 15 and 19 points respectively. 

Kiley DeLong (St. John's, N.L.) led the charge for UNB, putting up a double-double consisting of 18 points and 13 rebounds. Rachel Cleary (Brantford, Ont.) had a good game for the Varsity Reds as well, scoring 10 points on eight shot attempts.

Colleen Daly was honoured at the end of the game as a graduating player. This was her final home game in red and black. 

"I'm so thankful I could play for the V-Reds for four years," said Colleen Daly on playing for UNB. "I wouldn't choose to play on another team if I got paid to play. It's been a great opportunity."

UNB will head into the playoffs as the number six seed. Memorial's fate is still to be decided by the remaining games.
