Capers bounce back with 86-69 win

(SYDNEY, N.S.) - The Cape Breton University Capers were able to shake off Friday night's loss to Dalhousie and pick up a big win in the re-match at Sullivan Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon. The Capers offence looked a lot better in the contest and it led to an 86-69 win over Dalhousie.

Colleen Keane had an outstanding second half for Cape Breton and finished with a team-high 24 points to go along with seven rebounds and four assists.

Alison Keough and Rasheeka Gunn also put up big games for the Capers, with Keough contributing 18 points and 11 rebounds and Gunn scoring 11 points in the win.

Capers' point guard Valentina Primossi got the start on Saturday and played some amazing basketball. The second-year player out of Italy netted 17 points to go along with four assists on 7-of-8 shooting.

Courtney Thompson followed up her 29-point performance on Friday night with a game-high 27 points and seven assists in the loss on Saturday. After a rough first half, Ainsley MacIntyre got hot to start the second and finished with 15 points for Dalhousie.

Tessa Stammberger and Rebecca Nuttall also had good contributions for the Tigers. Stammberger had 13 points, seven rebounds and six assists, while Nuttall contributed 11 points to the Tigers' scoring effort.

After shooting just 30 per cent from the field on Friday night, the Capers bounced back in a big way on Saturday with 86 points. Cape Breton shot 52 per cent from the floor and out rebounded Dalhousie 38-27.

The Capers improve to 9-8 on the season and sit in fourth place in the AUS standings. Meanwhile, Dalhousie dropped to 10-6 with the loss to CBU, but still sits in second place in the AUS behind only Saint Mary's.

Cape Breton will play their final home game at 6 p.m. next Saturday against the 12-2 Saint Mary's Huskies, while Dalhousie has a game at StFX at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
