Huskies defeat Acadia 56-49, remain undefeated

(HALIFAX, N.S.) -  The CIS No. 6-ranked Saint Mary's Huskies defeated the Acadia Axewomen 56-49 Tuesday night in AUS women's basketball action.

Acadia led 19-11 after the first quarter and took a 30-27 halftime cushion.

Saint Mary's tightened down defensively in the second half, holding Acadia to a single basket in the third quarter, taking a 40-32 lead.

Acadia outscored the Huskies 17-16 in the fourth quarter but SMU held on for the 56-49 win.

Acadia's Paloma Anderson led all scorers with 15 points on the night while Allied Berry had 13 and Lauren Jodrey had 10 points.

Kennisha-Shanice Luberisse paced Saint Mary's with 13 points and five rebounds. Carlie Nugent added 12 points, Laura Langille chipped in 10 points and hauled down eight boards. Angelina Carvery had eight points.

Also scoring for the Huskies were Alexandra Smye and Katrina Murrell each with four points, Emma Valikoski netted three points and Shanicka Wood added two.

Saint Mary's improves to 9-0 on the year while Acadia drops to 0-9. The home and home series finishes up next Wednesday in Wolfville for A 6pm tip-off.
