(ST. JOHN'S, NFLD.) The UPEI Panthers defeated the Memorial Sea-Hawks 78-77 in AUS women's basketball on Saturday night at the Field House.

Memorial opened the game with a 12-point lead in the first quarter and continued to dominate through to the last quarter when the Panthers turned the tables and upset the Sea-Hawks on home court.

At the half Memorial lead 45-27 over UPEI.

By the end of the third quarter, Memorial led by 17 points, but half way through Memorial let down their guard and within four minutes the Panthers were within two points of the Sea-Hawks thanks to a number of back-to-back plays by Laura Power and Amy Gough (St. John's, Nfld.).

With 33 seconds left to go, the Sea-Hawks clung to a one-point lead, but a last second layup by Power resulted in a heartbreaking defeat for the home team.

Power and Gough led the Panthers with 23 and 20 points respectively in the win.

Kelia Pond (Goulds, Nfld.) had 19 points, including five three-pointers to lead the Sea-Hawks. Tianna Brown (Douglas, Arizona) and Megan Robinson (Waterloo, Ont.) added another 12 and 11 points respectively.

Power received the Subway player of the game honours for her contributions in the win.
